Amy Pietsch
As Director of the Venture Center, Amy is focused on creating training and development programs that focus on business innovation and entrepreneurial ventures. Since 1997 she has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs launch and grow their ventures in Wisconsin and beyond. Her technical entrepreneurial training taps on her experience with conducting feasibility studies, developing business plans and securing debt and equity financing for their ventures. The Appleton Post Crescent’s recent 50th Annual Report recognized and profiled Amy as being On the Rise and one of the people who is powering the Fox Cities’ progress.
Ms. Pietsch holds a BA, with honors, in Business & Management and Professional Communication from Alverno College. In 2000 she received certification as an Economic Development Finance Professional from the National Development Council. In 2001 Amy was certified as a NxLevel Instructor and prior to being named Venture Center Director, was the lead instructor for E-Seed, a 15-week entrepreneurial training series sponsored by Fox Valley Technical College. In 2003 Amy was awarded FVTC’s adjunct faculty Instructional Excellence Award and in 2005 was named the first recipient of Alverno College’s Young Professional Achievement Award.
Amy service on small business organizations include:
- Judge for the State of Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest and in 2005 was a judge for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Wisconsin Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
- Member of the Small Business Committee for the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry
- Member of the Wisconsin Innovation Network Northeast’s planning committee
- Steering committee member for the Northeast Wisconsin Entrepreneur Networking Day.
Mike Cattelino
- Associate Dean-Manufacturing, Information, and Agriculture Technologies Division
Before being appointed associate dean, Mike was a machine tool instructor at FVTC and worked as a journeyman machinist in the Fox Valley. Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Career Technical Education and Training from the University of Wisconsin—Stout and completed his machinist’s training at FVTC.
In addition to Mike’s teaching responsibilities, he is involved in a variety of programs:

Terry Fleischman
- Department Chair – Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Computer Control Engineering Technology
Since 1987, Terry has been an instructor at FVTC coming to us from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is he primary electronics instructor at the College and is responsible for all electrial and electronics-based programs. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering Madison University, Gulfport, Mississippi; a masters of science in Physics with and Emphasis in Computer Interfacing and Instrumentation from the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh, a bachelor’s of science in Electronic Engineering Technology from Southwest State University and associates degrees in Electromechanical Technology and Electronic Technology.
In addition to his teaching work, Terry also has these achievements:
- State grant recipient for new Computer Control Engineering Technology, 2005 ($94,279)
- Initiated new Associate Degree program – Computer Control Engineering Technology, 2004
- Teaching Innovation Project grant recipient, 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2001
- Selected to represent Fox Valley Technical College as a 2002 – 03 Leadership Fox Cities

Jim Janisse
- Development Manager & Consultant Fox Valley Technical College
Jim provides FAB LAB users two decades of experience in global consulting that encompassed process re-engineering, computer integrated manufacturing processes, business analysis and e-business solutions. While holding positions in management and consulting at IBM, Jim was an early adapter of integrating business systems into an online environment. After a 20 year career with IBM, Jim moved into education as a business and industry instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout as well as a development manager and consultant at FVTC.
Jim is the co-founder and chairperson of the United States FAB LAB Network and holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology-Manufacturing Engineering from UW-Stout and a master’s degree in Career-Technical Education and Specialization in Training-Human Resource Development.

Dean Sommerfeld
- Instructor & Team Leader – Mechanical Design Technician
Since 2001, Dean has been a Mechanical Design Instructor at FVTC where he teaches upper level design and analysis courses and is the department’s team leader. He holds 13 patents from his career in private industry where he was a product design engineer at several companies in the Midwest and is a registered professional engineer. Dean holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin—Madison and is working on his masters degree.
In addition to teaching, Dean has these achievements:
